What Christians Need to Know about Home Business

If you are going into business with the idea that everyone else has the same goals as you, then you are doomed to disappointment. The business goals of a Christian may be distinct, and may require delicate balance.

In my opinion, the business goals of someone who desires to serve the Lord, run something like this:

1. Income. Ok. You gotta have income, or you don't have a reason to start a business.

2. Desire to serve others in the course of your business. You want your business to have some meaning to those whom you interact with, and not just be a means to the end of earning income.

3. Honorable interaction with others. Your business needs to meet high standards for service, honesty, reliability, and integrity.

4. You want to make sure that you don't get taken in by someone else while looking for a good opportunity.

The business world can be very vicious. Much of the information available is geared to the bottom line, and to short term payoff rather than to sensible and honorable busines practices. I have a point to make here, and I cannot state it strongly enough:

Principles of Christianity, when lived on a daily basis, make your life better. Not easier, but better.

Principles of Christianity, when applied to ALL aspects of business, make business better. Not easier, but better.

The rules of truth hold. They work no matter where you apply them. And they work from both directions.

Not only will your business be better if you operate it by principles of Christlike behavior, but this also provides you the best method of knowing whether someone else has something valid to offer you.

Nothing is foolproof. There are plenty of people out there using the name of Christianity to scam people. But if you apply the same principles to their BUSINESS as you apply to judging a true Christian (based on behavior, not on dogma - honesty, kindness, reliability, diligence, caring, work, logic, etc), then you have a better chance of judging it rightly BEFORE you get into it.

I promise you, 99% of the scams out there WILL fail the test! Only a minute percentage of them will mimic honor well enough to deceive someone who does NOT want to be deceived. What I mean by that is, when you let greed overpower your common sense, then in a way, you WANT to be deceived.

Common sense backs up Christianity. And common sense will guide you to the correct opinion of a scam, because most scams play on your greed. They promise you easy money without much or any work. Now, anyone who has studied the Bible knows that this is contrary to God's word. So if you keep your principles in place, you won't get scammed, and when your business takes shape, it will do so in a form that the Lord can smile upon.

Your faith can be a great asset to you. Because honorable businesses succeed better and longer than dishonorable ones. And because the principles taught in the scriptures will serve as a protection to you in your search for something good to do, as long as you measure the prospect by the Lord's yardstick, and not by the fevered imaginings of greed.
